Sustainability at Carestep

New paths, opportunities and careers. For us, sustainability is not just a empty phrase, but an integral part of our business.

The aim is to produce as much good as possible

Carestep provides responsible cleaning services. We help the unemployed, immigrants and young people by employing them and investing in training that meets their needs and aspirations.

This page summarises the cornerstones of our sustainability work. If you have any questions, please contact us and we will be happy to tell you more!

"It is important to look at sustainability as a whole and build strong pillars for environmental, social and societal responsibility."

Environmental Responsibility

Ecological cleaning products and carbon footprint monitoring

Social Responsibility

A social enterprise that funds the provision of employment and training pathways for people who, for one reason or another, face barriers to progress.

Societal Responsibility

Skilled, linguistically skilled and experienced people in Finland, without using up society’s resources

Sustainability in our everyday operations

Carestep was founded because of a need for quality cleaning and a desire to bring good to the world around us. That’s why we are a social enterprise which means that all of our profits are spent on training our staff for career development. We employ people who need support because, for one reason or another, there are obstacles to their career progression.

At Carestep, we favour permanent employment and only hire temporary staff during the summer. Carestep does not use agency staff, and all employees have a contract of employment with Carestep. We always pay employees a higher salary than the minimum wage as defined in the collective agreement.

Promoting the well-being of the environment is a matter for all of us. For us, this means cleaning with the lowest possible chemical load, minimising water consumption, using low-emission means of transport, and monitoring the carbon footprint of our operations.

Sustainability report

We report annually on our sustainability as part of our parent company Greenstep’s sustainability reporting.

Values that guide our work

Carestep has a strong corporate culture that is reflected in all our activities. This is reflected both in the training we provide to our staff and in our day-to-day work.

The core values that are important to Carestep employees are:

  • quality and professionalism
  • a positive attitude and innovation
  • ethical and fair treatment of every individual
  • tolerance and equality
  • respect for human dignity and respect for all
  • responsibility

The carbon footprint of our operations

Carestep’s emissions are monitored through a carbon footprint calculation.

The calculation of the 2023 carbon emissions has been done according to the GHG protocol, covering Scope 1, 2 and 3.

  • Scope 1 and 2 emissions are very low because Carestep’s premises are located in Greenstep’s facilities.
  • Scope 3 emissions total 5.9 tCO2e and consist mainly of purchased materials and employee commuting.
  • Most emissions from Carestep’s operations came from employee commuting, as we have customers all over the Helsinki metropolitan area. However, we try to favour low-emission means of transport wherever possible.
